And absolutely no one said a word

It was a hectic morning here. I woke up at 6:00 to make sure that Vicky and Abby got up and did the things that they needed to do before they each had to leave the house at 8:00. Vicky was taking a senior portrait. The boy who was having his picture taken wanted it done at the beach in town and they wanted to get there early before anyone was there. Vicky wanted to download pictures from her camera and make sure all batteries were fully charged. Abby was working at a dog wash. The proceeds of the dog wash were going to a local animal shelter. At 11:00 last night she remembered that she was supposed to make brownies for the bake sale that was taking place at the dog wash. So she had to get up early to bake.

After I woke up the girls I hopped in the shower. Even after the shower I was still tired from too many nights staying up to watch The Daily Show and The Colbert Report (to be honest I can only keep my eyes open the "The Word" - about 11:45 here). I got dressed in denim capris and a pink camp shirt with pale flowers on it. I put on the shirt as always do - by slipping it over my head. It absolutely drives Geoff crazy that I don't unbutton my shirts when I take them off and then button them when I put them on. I take pride in my efficiency (and maybe a little in the fact that I can passively aggressively upset Geoff).

At 8:00 Abby and I left the house for the dog wash. Walking out the door we ran into the boy who was having his portrait taken. He was with his parents. I had never met them before so I stopped to introduce myself. We talked for a few minutes and then Abby and I headed for the dog wash. Once at the dog wash I helped set-up and talked to a bunch of people - some whom I knew and some that I had never met. Then I went home to wait for Vicky to return.

Once Vicky came home we went to the mall because (drum roll please) the Yankee Candle store was holding a haunted house tea light holder for me. The haunted house is so special that it deserves its own blog entry so prepare yourself for that sometime in the not so distant future. While at the mall we spent considerable time at Lord and Taylor so Vicky could look at Kate Spade purses (oops, I mean handbags) and shoes with heels higher than I would ever dream of wearing. We went to Yankee Candle and then went to Williams Sonoma (I have $11 left on a gift card that's burning a hole in my wallet). We were in the mall for a little over an hour just walking around. We saw a few people we knew (but didn't know where we knew them from, if you know what I mean). We waved and said, "hello!"

We came home and I did the usual Saturday stuff (laundry, etc). All the while Geoff was outside working with Ben on Ben's tree house. At 1:00 I went back to the dog wash to retrieve Abby. I helped clean up and spoke to a good number of people. I had purchased an LL Bean ball ice cream maker thing on ebay. The woman who sold it lives a couple of towns over so we decided I would just go to her house and pay her and pick it up. In all of my ebay years I have never done this. When I got to her house she was outside with her husband and kids packing their minivan for a vacation. We started talking and a neighbor came over and joined the conversation.

After that Abby and I stopped at the grocery store for some milk. One of Vicky's friends worked there so we stopped to say "hello" to her while we were there. Then we came home. Our neighbors were outside with their son and his sons so Abby and I went to talk to them and see how big the boys had grown. We had a nice little talk and then went into our house.

Geoff was in the house and it was the first time I had seen him today since I had taken a shower and gotten dressed. He looked at me for a brief second and said, "Why are you wearing your shirt inside out?" I looked down expecting to see a row of buttons but they weren't there. Then I reached around and my collar was right but the tags were on the outside. I must have turned the shirt inside out when I took it off the last time I wore it and washed it that way. Then I put it on the hanger still inside out, but fixed the collar. The shirt was so thin and the pattern so faint that it actually looked almost (but not quite) the same from the inside and the outside.

I shudder to think how many people (friends and strangers) looked at me and noticed that my shirt had no visible buttons, my seams were on the outside and I had the tag showing. But no one, not even two of my children had even said a single word to me about it. Maybe Geoff is right about there being a reason to unbutton a shirt when getting undressed and then buttoning it when getting dressed.
